Snow Day

Snow snow snow. Jordan and I went out last night around 1am to get a load of the weather. Beautiful through the eyes of Victorians, and a bloody inconvenience for the rest of Canada, apparently. I don't know what their problem is. We seem to be related to the rest of the country the same way Hawaii is to the USA: not really a rational place to live, or very fitting to the rest of the nation, but a great vacation spot. But to the rest of Canada I say pshoff.
School is closed. I think this is the only snow day for UVic since 1996, so I feel blessed. Having now missed 6 hours of class and 1 due date today, I have an opportunity to catch up and use this day to make amends with the homework I've been hissy-fighting with for the last couple of weeks. Just like that simpsons episode where Bart gets a snow day and uses it wisely to catch up and get good grades. Or at least I think that's how it went. At any rate, I'm going to make sure to hit at least one room mate unexpectedly with a snowball today.

On to a different topic. Who here thinks dating websites are for losers? Everybody? That's what I thought. But they shouldn't be. The idea that self-respecting people shouldn't internet-date is pravalent, but I can't for the life of me figure out a decent reason why. If the reason is that no self-respecting people do it now, it is circular. I am officially FOR internet dating, and to extend that, I am officially for any form of meeting people, whether it be in person, type, phone, telegram, hologram, or even snail mail (does that still exist for purposes other than delivering bills to people?).
Don't let stigma stop you from putting youself out there.

And if anybody wants to take the picture of Jordan (above, on the right) and make profiles for him on various dating sites, I grant my full permission.

First off, yes, I have a pic of your girlfriend on my website, and not you. DEAL. I think your girlfriend is better looking than you ;-) (just the opinion of a heterosexual guy speaking, but you're pretty too Jared *wink wink*) .. secondly, I'll add the insight to your 'snow day' blog - having grown up in Victoria for 20 years only to move out to the prairies where people hate snow.

Snow in Victoria is a blessing, because it comes only very rarely, with not TOO harsh of temperatures (and NO, -3 ISN'T COLD!), and so it's a pleasant change from the ordinary, and it's pretty, and you get to do childish things in/with it that you haven't done since childhood.

Elsewhere, like in Lethbridge, snow happens ALL too often, and is accompanied by temperatures of or below -27 (PLUS wind chill!) like it was today. good sir, I invite you to beg to differ, but THOSE conditions are NOT fun, especially when the snow makes getting from place to place, in THAT cold, take far longer.

So, I invite fellow Victorians to frolic in and enjoy the snow while it lasts, but, and trust me on this one, snow, when seen TOO often, in the TOO cold, isn't exactly a blessing.

PS: thanks for visiting my website.

I like how you allude to potentially terrorizing a "roommate" with snowballs, and not terrorizing a S.O by shoving snow down the back of their shirt. [glare glare glare]

Yes, snow is wonderful. Personally though, I don't find this brown-slush-like substance found around Victoria's streets to be necessasrily "snow", really. Snow is Calgary's ground, it's the spirit of Christmas personified, and it does NOT melt after a single day.

However, there's pictures, there's proof, so I suppose I can't really say much to the contrary.

Oh, thanks for the compliment Colin.
I find your website-making-skills gnarlific.
