Day 27

Today's entry will be something of a variety show:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just getting over a cold today. I know that every single person out there thinks thay've got the be-all end-all home cold remedy, but my personal recommendation is a good hour in and out of the steam room (10 or so minute intervals) at any rec center. It made me feel much better!

Among the strangest home remedies I've heard:

Tea of bonset leaves and elder root.
Snorting salt water.
Eating honey.
Avoiding all milk products.

Come to think of it, you might be able to write a hilarious diet book purely out of combining wacky cold remedies into a general health plan.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The penis and the brain have something in common: It's not so much size, but how you use it that matters. But really, size helps a lot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An addition to yesterday's entry: People talk to their pets all the time, but more interestingly, people project assumptive emotions upon their pets as well. Cats must be happy, sad, confused, angry, or whatever else, when placed into a situation that we believe a very thick-headed person might feel those emotions in. Or more accurately, we treat our cats and dogs like small children. We allow them emotions and the capacity for "why?"
I am skeptical of those who talk regularly to their pets. They assure me that they really know it's all a little nutty, that their cat hasn't got a clue what's being said. But I get the suspicion that a lot of people really do believe their pets have a relationship with them that is deeper than any reasonable person could believe.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every wednesday afternoon on campus a bunch of pot smokers gather around to get high and listen to some legalization advocate ramble on about how unjust it is that smoking pot is illegal.
The whole event is very ironic, and in my mind, hilarious. But, let us think about it for a moment. I grant everything the hard minded legalization advocates say about the hiprocracy of govt. selling booze and cigarettes, but giving criminal records to kids who smoke pot. I also grant that it may well be less bad for you than, say, smoking unfiltered cigarettes, and less addictive.

The question remains, is this a worthwhile cause? Or, more to the point, is marijuana worth smoking? I'm going to have to say no to both. Similarly, I'd feel it unjust if the Government made it illegal for me to drop large rocks on my foot, but I wouldn't go ahead and do it either, and nor would I protest its illegality.
South Park summed up my thoughts about marijuana perfectly:

"Well, Stan, the truth is marijuana probably isn't gonna make you kill people, and ...it most likely isn't gonna fund terrorism, but... Well son, pot makes you feel fine with being bored and... It's when you're bored that you should be learning some new skill or discovering some new science or... being creative. If you smoke pot you may grow up to find out that you aren't good at anything."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If a person wants to die, and needs some help, I say let it happen. For a moment let us disregard all the complications, implications, and variables. It seems to me a great injustice for an elected Government to control through legislation an individual's decision as to the time and manner of his or her exit from the living world. I find the notion of property to be very complicated and troublesome, with this one big exception: the self.

On the topic of illegal drugs:

If illegal drugs became legal, is that to say the amount of drug users would increase uncontrollably? Or would all our illegal drug users simply become legal drug users and therefore be allowed use more drugs and possibly overdose. Then our world would contain the remains of corrupt, legal druggies and those living above the influence. Of course, there is self control... maybe a small portion of society would be 'responsible druggies' who get high only once a day.

Once, when I had a socials test, I asked my teacher "Does spelling count?"
He then replied "That is the strangest question to ask. If I say 'No' then are you now going to spell words incorrectly? Try you're best, because spelling is important."

"Do drugs count?" If all are labelled illegal, does it seem to stop drug use. No, It merely conceals it. And if a less harmful drug (e.g. "pot") is legalized would that effect our society more than it is already currently being effected?

My point is, if illegal drugs are being used right now and then they become legal, would the non-drug users start to use them? I believe that if you want to do drugs, then you have done or are doing them right now. Making it legal doesn't mean the rest of the people who aren't drug users are now going to become them. However, the current drug users may become more dangerous and therefore jeopardize the innocent non-druggies.

Life is controversial to define, but I believe some of Life is composed of a series of self-responsible decisions which leads to discovery and development of one's own self. Of course there is much more, but this comment has continued too long (so I am trying to wrap it up.)

Drugs are but a choice in life (one which I believe is a poor decision). However, legal or not, drugs will be used and will continue to be used. So, if you're a druggie, or come across a druggie who wants to legalize drugs, realize that drug exist; legalized or not and that if they are a big part in your life, be happy that they exist, and keep your rebellious plans to yourself. In other words: Don't complain!

Jared, you should tell this to that group of pot-smokers at Uvic. (Except not, because that could anger them... which is BAD!)

Pheww, that was intense! :P
