late night thoughts
So there's a logician in hell, who's been there for millions of years already, suffering in all kinds of horrible ways. God says to him, "You must be repentant by now, since you know that you'll be suffering here for an eternity." The logician responds, "Ah, I've got you there! No matter how long you keep me here, it'll never be an eternity."
The infinite is a concept that I just can't get my head around. The moment I come across a notion that feels infinite is inevitably followed by the realization that what I'm thinking about is in fact very much finite. A professor was trying to explain infinity, noting that he always thought it best to imagine an ant walking around Mt. Everest, slowly wearing the mountain down into a flat plain.
