Happy New Year!

Well, I suppose it is resolution time again. How did that happen so quickly? It's weird, that the busier years seem to go by even more quickly. My sister is running and talking, my degree is hanging on a wall (or sitting in a drawer, or something), and I am in Korea for some reason.

First, let's do a recap of last year's resolutions. I didn't write them here on the blog, and I think I wrote them on paper and left them back in Victoria in my desk or dresser. The only resolutions I can remember having made were to lose weight, write a blog every day when possible, and to continue my ongoing lifelong resolution to die of old age without having owned a cellular phone.

It wasn't all that bad a year. I have lost a bit of weight, and I managed to write a blog every day until late August, which is pretty good. But, I did have to get a cell phone here. I tried not to, I really tried, but land lines are just out of fashion here in the world's most wireless country. The combination of a demandindg job, and not knowing the city, forced the choice. When I return home, I intend quite fully to leave my phone behind!

So for this year, keeping in mind that 2009 will be spent (in likelihood) entirely in Korea, here are my resolutions:

1. Write down my resolutions in a place where I can find them in a year (done already!).

2. Run 10 kilometers without stopping. I've never gotten past about 7. Necessary conditions for this resolution are weight loss and exercise.

3. Save some money, and hold on to my present investments no matter the market. It's all about thinking long term...

4. Hike the tallest mountains on mainland Korea. This isn't as bad as it sounds. The three tallest are all under 2000 meters (barely), and none are more than a day away by bus. One of them, Seoraksan (san = mountain) will be my destination in a couple of weeks, if not sooner. Korea's tallest mountain is a dormant Volcano in Jeju Island, but I may not get a chance to visit Jeju in the next year.

5. Make plans for a career: this needs to be done in the next year... I'll figure out what more school I need, and how to prepare and apply. Music? Law? Journalism? Professional ice cream testing? Only time will tell!

Happy new years everyone!
